It was founded by former Japanese astronaut Masato Tanaka and was launched in 2013.
It currently features over 4,500 news articles, as well as a gallery of high quality images.
Art News has already announced plans to expand its coverage into China and Southeast Asia, and has previously said it would begin offering content on the Middle East and North Africa in the coming months.
It is unclear how Art News will respond to the acquisition.
